SnipPets Celebrating!

My newest little SnipPet critters are ready to celebrate birthdays, baby showers or simply the joy of every day! I created these with the hope that they would be very special, unique cake toppers that could be displayed and treasured in a child's room or nursery for many years. Happy celebrating!!!

Just wanted to share my most recent custom cake topper for an NC State bride and groom.
This was a fun little pair to create! I am a Tarheel girl but I love the Wolfpack too :).

It's all about cake lately...

Cake toppers, cake decorating, cupcake baking.....my life seems to be all about C-A-K-E!! After cats, it is my favorite thing :). I started my second session of cake decorating at Hobby Lobby last week. It is the "Flowers and Cake Design" class. So far we have dabbled in making fondant and royal icing flowers. In addition, I am starting to make cupcakes weekly from my new vegan cupcake book, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. My husband, his professor colleagues, my cat lady friends, my art buddy and her daughter are all my taste testers. So far, so good...getting stellar reviews! And I just finished up another cake topper. One of my Cheshire Cat on the Mad Hatter's hat pieces for an Alice themed baby shower.

Wedding season is approaching....

I have lots of fun stuff to blog about...a cat adoption, a TNR adventure, cake baking and decorating....but those tales will have to wait for another day. I need to wrap up my day and get my workout done (am in week 6 of the P90X series...no pain, no gain :)!!). I just wanted to share what has been on my table for awhile. I finally finished a batch of custom wedding cake toppers today.

A Cat, a Tiger and a Dragon, oh my!

I just completed a very unique and whimsical cake topper. My customer requested a cat bride, a tiger groom and a beribboned heart to top her fairytale dragon cake. She his having a medieval inspired wedding...such fun!

The tiger's tunic and bride's dress were modeled after the actual wedding attire...just simplified.

A SnipPet Zoo: Baldwin Eagles, a Panda and a Gorilla

I just finished up two very special SnipPet cake toppers. The first is a pair of Boston College Baldwin Eagles. My special customer wanted the bride to have maroon and gold pom poms instead of a bouquet, and she wanted the groom to wear a marching band hat, have a BC pennant in hand, and be flanked with a tiny sousaphone! I truly enjoyed creating this little mascot couple.



This wonderfully quirky and charming pair was also a fun request. The gorilla groom needed to have an Ohio State jersey peeking out of his tuxedo, and the panda bride's silver dress had to match the actual wedding gown design. She has a tiara instead of a veil and her bouquet contains tiny sculpted gerbera daisies.

Puss in Boots and Wedding Cake Topper WIPs

I still have clay on my hands as I type this. I have been deep in the paperclay since last week. The weather is damp and a bit dreary, so the drying process is lingering on and on. Fingers crossed that a few things will be dry by Thursday so that the painting can begin!

Meet the SnipPet version of Puss in Boots. I still need to add heels to his boots and do some touch ups, but he is almost ready to be in living color :)!



Wedding season is definitely upon us. I have had some wonderful custom requests for my cake toppers. I adore making these! TOO fun! I'll explain more about the stories behind them when I get them all finished.



I am heading to see Alice in Wonderland with a friend tomorrow!!! Cannot wait! It will be nice to escape my home studio for a few hours and get some serious mid-week creative inspiration.

And I'll be trapping cats on Friday for the monthly spay/neuter clinic on Saturday. I am hoping to get 5 cats snipped. I am going to TRY to remember to have my camera on hand this time so you guys can see our kitty adventure! Here is a photo of Miss Piggy...one of the cats we helped trap and spay last week.

Experimenting with more wedding cake toppers...

I am really loving my adventures with wedding cake toppers! It's just so fun to have a little part in a couple's special day. I can't imagine the pressure of being a wedding coordinator (yikes!), but being able to create a lovely piece of art to add some whimsy to the wedding is wonderful. I get to hear sentimental stories about the bride and groom, their engagement and their love story. I am a hopeless romantic, sooooo...it's right up my alley.

I decided to experiment with lovebird cake toppers. I wanted to put them on beribboned dowels, so that it would look like they were floating/flying above the top tier of the cake. I love the ribbon tendrils hanging down. I am anxious to create several versions of these in various color schemes, but I started with blue and a metallic champagne color. Hearts are a-flutter!

The Owl and the Pussycat done SnipPet Style!

Gotta hit the gym, but wanted to share what I finished today. I have been wanting to make the Owl and the Pussycat FOREVER and I finally did it!

This little couple is drifing off into the moonlight and is sure to live happily ever after :)!!!!

Shoowee! I am tired and ready for the weekend! I hope it will be relatively uneventful. I have lots of things to blog about...kittens, artwork and other artists, but I need to get some photos taken first. So, hopefully I will have some fun posts for you next week!

Here's a custom penguin cake topper that I finished yesterday and shipped out to New York. The soon to be married couple got engaged at Central Park's penguin exhibit, so these will be a perfect way to remember that special day.

Shoowee! Where does time go????!!!! I have wanted to blog every day this week and each day has just flown by! I STILL haven't told you about my most recent TNRing and kitten rescues, and I promise to do that in the next few days. I have realized that I desperately need to work on my time management and come up with a more organized schedule for everything in my life! Otherwise, I just run around all day and feel like nothing gets completed.

I started sculpting quite a few new dolls last week...snow critters, caroling critters, holiday busts and a few custom orders. I just completed the special orders and thought I would share them with you. Here they are....a collegiate munchkin doll for some big Virginia Tech Hokie fans, a guitar playing turtle munchkin named Buckingham and a blue and green chick wedding cake topper for a very special couple!

Cake Boss inspires some Wedding WIPs!

Ahhhhhh!!! FINALLY! I have actually gotten some sculpting done this week, and it feels GOOD!!

I gleaned some new energy and motivation from watching our favorite new reality show, Cake Boss. I can't tell you how much i love that show! My husband discovered it a few weeks ago and we are totally hooked. Every time we watch it I say, "Fly me to New Jersey!!! I wanna work for the Boss at Carlo's Bakery!!" It's a family bakery filled with creativity, cleverness, a dash of crazy and most of all, lots of CAKE! One of the girls on the show is their expert cake sculptor. She sculpts amazing, detailed decorations with molding chocolate. I really would love to have her job. But since i have ZERO experience with cake decorating (i don't think experience with cake EATING qualifies), I figure that career is not very realistic. I did try to find some classes here in Lexington but didn't have much luck. Then, a lightbulb went off in my muddled brain! What about creating animal cake toppers??! People have suggested this to me in the past, and i have made a few but hadn't really pursued it. Right now the idea really seems to click! I have always adored beautiful cakes and pastries (my favorite movie is Chocolat), and I love weddings and romance. Wedding cake toppers is the perfect way to combine my sculpting skills with other things that I enjoy.
So, here are a few photos of what i've got going on so far....hedgehog, penquin, cat, frog and rabbit brides and grooms! As you can see, all of the grooms have little hand sculpted top hats and the brides will have little veils. I found some beautiful tulle ribbon with lace edging for that. And i just ordered some tiny vintage flowers for accents and bouquets. They are all sunbathing right now. I am hoping they will be dry by tomorrow so i can get started on the painting. I can hardly wait!





I have also started on two pieces for the next Spookytime Jingles update. The first one is a mixed media piece using an antique clock frame. The black cat will be scaring everyone with a big BOO hiss! The second piece is a frog wizard with his own haunted house keepsake box.
