Sneak peek: WIPs for the week

Here is what is on the art table this week....
A cheshire cat in a witch's hat!

...and my interpretation of the little red hen. I still need to sculpt a baby chick to go in her sling. He will be much better behaved than the one hanging from her feathery plume :).

Alice in Wonderland SnipPet Style!

Some of you will remember the Cheshire Cat I created during my wonderful week at the John Campbell Folk School. Well, i finally carved out some time to make a White Rabbit using the painting techniques I learned that week. I wanted the rabbit to be in the same style as the cat....bright, shimmering eyes and a wide smile with similar coordinating color scheme and details. I think i am getting the hang of using many sheer layers of acrylic washes and using pastels for shadows and accents. It really gives great depth and dimension to the figures.

I usually have NO problem parting with my artwork, but the cat has been a different story. I put so many hours and thought into him, so I sort of needed him to stay with me for a little while. But I think I am ready for him to find a special new home. I will be listing both the cat and the rabbit in my etsy shop soon. They are going to be part of a new category...a "Signature SnipPet Collector Series" or something to that effect. I am excited and anxious to keep adding to this line of characters.

So, here they are! The White Rabbit and the Cheshire Cat on their way to a fabulous tea party!!

Experimenting with more wedding cake toppers...

I am really loving my adventures with wedding cake toppers! It's just so fun to have a little part in a couple's special day. I can't imagine the pressure of being a wedding coordinator (yikes!), but being able to create a lovely piece of art to add some whimsy to the wedding is wonderful. I get to hear sentimental stories about the bride and groom, their engagement and their love story. I am a hopeless romantic, sooooo...it's right up my alley.

I decided to experiment with lovebird cake toppers. I wanted to put them on beribboned dowels, so that it would look like they were floating/flying above the top tier of the cake. I love the ribbon tendrils hanging down. I am anxious to create several versions of these in various color schemes, but I started with blue and a metallic champagne color. Hearts are a-flutter!

Jack Sprat...another heartwarming update!

I am such a sap! Every time i get updates from people who have adopted my rescue cats and kittens, I end up in tears! I just can't help it. I can't explain how happy it makes me to see them safe and sound and well cared for. It makes the pain of letting go and the anguish i feel when i find them on the street all worth it. I NEED these positive updates in order to keep going and renew my faith in humans.

Here is Jack Sprat in his new tie! What a handsome boy!! He is getting along beautifully with his kitty roomie, Nelly, and they may have a small furry friend joining them soon. Love you, Jack :)!!

Remember Suki and Oscar??

Suki, Oscar, Sammy and Skippy were 4 feral kittens that i rescued and tamed early in the fall. They were absolutely terrified...hissing, spitting and lunging. Some of you may remember them. They were the cutest babies ever and eventually came around after a great deal of tough love and TLC. Suki and Oscar were adopted by a sweet lady in a nearby town. I found her on facebook yesterday and she had a whole album of photos of those adorable kitties! I was beyond thrilled to see them lounging and happy and so well taken care of. It is the greatest gift anyone could give me. All I want is to see pets being treasured and protected like they should be.

This photo is my favorite and purrfectly illustrates how every kitty should spend its days....like royalty!

Princess Suki

I love this one too...so sweet!!!

Kitty update....
Remember Miss Biscuits?? Well, i didn't have any luck finding a home for her here. I had one pseudo offer and let's just say, many red flags went up and i found myself clutching Miss B tightly thinking, there is no way that you are going to adopt this little lady! Thankfully, Good Mews in Atlanta notified me that they could take her. I was beyond ecstatic to get her to my favorite place in the world! So, Miss Biscuits and I packed our bags and headed to Atlanta on Monday. She was a purrfect little traveler and so relaxed when we arrived at Good Mews. The volunteers were happy to meet her. Here is a photo I took of her the night before our road trip. Don't you want to kiss that tummy??!!

Snowy Saturday = Sweet SnipPets

When it snows and snows, the best thing to do make SnipPets! It's been easy to stay inside and get artwork done this week. So, other than multiple trips to the vet and a few much needed yoga classes, I have been glued to my desk.

I had a very special request to create a Valentine munchkin in memory of a beloved kitty named Henry. I was honored to make this handsome and sweet furry boy into a SnipPet. Many thanks and purrs and headbonks to Milo and Alfie's mom!!

I also finished a Valentine bluebird with a message heart. I thought this would be such a cute, thoughtful gift for a man to give to the special lady in his life. It could also be a creative way to propose with a "Marry Me!" heart. I can completely customize this little guy...any animal, color scheme and message on the heart.

I'll share my newest Halloween SnipPet for the Spookytime Jingles' update soon. And don't forget that the Pfatt Marketplace update will be tonight at midnight!

TGIF!!!

Shoowee! I am tired and ready for the weekend! I hope it will be relatively uneventful. I have lots of things to blog about...kittens, artwork and other artists, but I need to get some photos taken first. So, hopefully I will have some fun posts for you next week!

In the meantime, have a FABULOUS weekend and stay warm!!!!! Are you dreaming of warm, breezy days, green grass and blue skies like me?!

Here's a custom penguin cake topper that I finished yesterday and shipped out to New York. The soon to be married couple got engaged at Central Park's penguin exhibit, so these will be a perfect way to remember that special day.

B-r-r-r-r-r....when it's cold outside, just take a catnap!

It is SOOOOO darn cold here, and i know it's even colder elsewhere. There is no doubt that we will all be singing with the birds when spring arrives!!! Of course, I am obsessing about the poor homeless cats and chained up dogs. I just don't know how they survive these frigid temps with no relief. The neighborhood feral kitties come and go here for meals and then disappear down the drains or into the woods as usual. BUT, 2 out of the 3 cats that inhabit our back porch trust us very much and actually came inside last night. That melted my heart. Just seeing them curled up by the fire for a little while gave me some peace. I will have to get some photos next time.

For now, i wanted to share photos of our Rooney in a folk art goose sled. They can make a bed out of anything! And 5 out of 6 of our furkids sleeping in our bed. They are spoiled rotten as it should be. That is Heidi (aka Boogie) in the blue blanket at the end of the bed, Meadow (aka Kookoo) is the brown tabby, and Rooney, Teeny and Finnegan are the orange tabbies lined up on their blue fleece mats. It's hard not to climb in there with them during the day :)!

Valentine Munchkins are here! xoxoxox

I was extremely anxious to get started on Valentine SnipPets, so i started sculpting a few right before Christmas and got them painted last week. I LOVE Valentine's Day!!! I always have....long before boyfriends and romantic love entered my life. Even as a child, I just adored everything about Valentine's Day. Creating handmade Valentines from snips of paper, paint, doilies and glitter was a treasured activity (an early indication of my mixed media obsession :)!). And remember those mailboxes made from shoeboxes that you would put together for school Valentine exchanges??? So much fun! And since I have a major sweet tooth, the candy/chocolate part of the holiday makes it even more appealing. Every year, my dad would come home from work with 2 big red heart boxes of chocolates under his arm...a red one for my mom and a pink one for me! My mom would make us a special Valentine dinner and always had some special gift beautifully wrapped for me on my placemat. She knew how important the day was to me. I think it is a wonderful time to celebrate all kinds of love....family, friendships, and of course, the love of our beloved furry companions :).

So, here are some of my munchkin Valentines. These are listed in my Etsy shop and the rest will be available during this month's Pfatt and STJ updates! Also, SnipPet bookmarks are back in my shop! They are $4.00 each with FREE shipping and 100% of the profits will go straight to spaying/neutering kitties in Lexington! These bookmarks are a perfect little Valentine gift and a great way to spread the furry love :).
